From Whistler, CAN
(November 11, 2022) – Hallie Clark edged out defending North American Cup champion Nicole Silveira to win North American Cup gold, her first as a slider for the United States.
Clarke had the quick start of the first heat and came across the line as the leader after three sleds. She held on as the rest of the field came down, eventually edging Silveira by .05 after the first run.
In the second heat, Silveira set the quick time of the race to move into the lead with only Clarke to go. Clarke, sliding on her home track, crossed the line with only .02 to spare, but that was enough to win gold to start the 2022/2023 season. She had previously represented Canada prior to the 2022/2023 season.
Czechia’s Anna Fernstädt finished third in just her third North American Cup race in her storied career. Fernstädt previously finished in second in two NAC races in Lake Placid during the 2019/2020 season.
Jackie Narracott, the 2022 Olympic silver medalist, finished fourth, well ahead of France’s Agathe Bessard in fifth. Canada’s Jaclyn LaBerge rounded out the top six.
LaBerge, who had retired in the offseason, came back to make the Canadian national team after being invited to team trials.
Canada’s Grace Dafoe finished eighth, while teammates Tirza Lara and Payton Spence finished tenth and 11th, respectively.
Malta’s Shannon Galea finished 13th.
