From Whistler, CAN
(November 10, 2022) – The IBSF North American Cup season kicked off in Whistler, Canada, and a woman who is no stranger to the speed of Whistler cruised to victory.
Olympic monobob gold medalist Kaillie Humphries cruised to victory on a track she’s very familiar with, setting the quick time in both heats on her way to a 1.12 second victory over Canadian Olympian Cynthia Appiah.
While Appiah out-started Humphries in both heats, Humphries rallied and was the quickest by the third split in both heats to take the lead in the first heat and the win after the second.
The win for Humphries was her sixth straight in Whistler, dating back to the IBSF World Cup two-woman event in February of 2012. She’s never finished off of the podium there, amassing seven golds (including the 2010 Olympic gold medal), a silver and a bronze.
For Appiah it was another race where she was by far the quickest off the top, .09 and .05 ahead of Humphries and over a tenth ahead of anyone else.
Canadian Bianca Ribi finished third, .32 behind her teammate Appiah.
The United States put three sliders in the top six, with Nicole Vogt finishing in fourth, a half-second ahead of Lauren Brzozowski in fifth.
Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler, the lone European in the field, finished sixth.
Riley Compton finished seventh in her first race in Canada.
Canadian Mackenzie Stewart’s sled was underweight and was disqualified.
