From St. Moritz, SUI
(February 17, 2022) – Jonas Frei and Christopher Stewart dueled for gold on their home ice in St. Moritz, with Frei coming out on top for his fourth straight Para Sport World Cup bobsled win.
Stewart took the early advantage over Frei, taking a .24 second lead into the second heat of the competition. On that second run it was Frei putting down the quicker run between the two, and while Frei’s time wasn’t the quickest of the heat it was enough to beat out Stewart by just .03 over two runs to take the gold medal.
Stewart finished second after a third-quickest second run.
Austria’s Hermann Ellmauer won his first IBSF medal with a bronze after setting the quick time of the second heat to move up from fourth to third.
Germany’s Nikolai Johann finished a career-best fourth, ahead of the United States’ Robert Balk and Guillermo Castillo, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Great Britain’s Corie Mapp finished ninth, two seconds off the pace.
