From Mariazell, AUT
(February 20, 2022) – Evelin Lanthaler continued her perfect World Cup season with a win in Mariazell, beating out teammate Greta Pinggera for the top spot.
In the one-run race, Lanthaler was the last to go off. Pinggera had slid into the lead, well ahead of anyone else. Lanthaler was behind Pinggera early, .01 behind at the first split, but had a strong bottom portion of the track to slide to victory by .29 over Pinggera.
Riccarda Ruetz put down a huge run from the eighth starting position to slide into the lead that held all the way until Pinggera’s run over 15 minutes later to win bronze, her first in World Cup action. She edged out Austrian veteran Tina Unterberger by .01 for bronze, while Unterberger finished fourth.
Russia’s Ekaterina Lavrenteva finished fifth, while Lisa Walch of Germany rounded out the top six.
Germany’s Sara Bachmann had the best run of her season to finish seventh in the one-heat race.
Canada’s Bailey Stonham finished 19th as the lone North American in the field.
The race was held to one heat due to warm temperatures due to global warming.
With one race to go in the World Cup schedule, Evelin Lanthler has clinched the World Cup overall title. Pinggera sits second, 35 points ahead of Walch.
