From Deutschnofen, ITA
(January 29, 2022) – Italy went one-two in Deutschnofen, with the team of Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara winning their fourth gold medal of the season.
Pigneter & Clara opened up a .39 second advantage over Austria’s Fabian & Simon Achenrainer in the first heat, with Patrick & Matthias Lambacher in third.
On the second run, Russia’s Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev set the quick time of the heat to take the lead with three teams to go. The Lambachers were consistent and held their spot, while the Achenrainers could not. The Austrians fell two spots go put the Lambachers in the lead with just Pigneter & Clara to go.
Pigneter & Clara didn’t set the quick run of the second heat, .02 off the pace set by the Russians, but had plenty in the bank to win their fourth gold of the season.
Lambacher & Lambacher finished second, while Porshnev & Lazarev finished third.
With two races to go in the World Cup season, Pigneter & Clara hold an impressive 115 point advantage over Fabian & Simon Achenrainer. Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev are third.
