From Oberhof, GER
(January 15, 2022) – Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken broke the track record twice on their way to a big victory in Oberhof, beating out teammates Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt for gold.
Eggert & Benecken were out-started by Wendl & Arlt in both heats, but both of their runs were nearly flawless as the duo broke the track record with a 41.331 downtime in the first run, and then lowered it with a 41.320 on the second run to take gold by .316 over Wendl & Arlt.
Wendl & Arlt took silver, while Italy’s Emanuel Rieder & Simon Kainzwaldner broke the start record on their way to a bronze medal.
Austria’s Thomas Steu & Lorenz Koller finished fourth, only .004 ahead of Latvia’s Andris & Juris Sics, with Italy’s Ludwig Rieder & Patrick Rastner rounding out the top six.
Canada’s Tristan Walker & Justin Snith jumped up from 11th to ninth on their second run.
With one race to go in the FIL World Cup, Andris & Juris Sics lead Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken by 37 points in the overall points. Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt are third, but can only finish as well as second overall, as they’re over 100 points out.
