(January 15, 2022) – Over the course of the 2021/2022 World Cup season, no nation has been more consistent in the Monobob World Series than the United States. They finished the season strong with a one-two finish in St. Moritz.
Kaillie Humphries was the quick slider in the first heat, .15 ahead of teammate Elana Meyers Taylor. On the second run it was Meyers Taylor with a track record to move into the lead with only Humphries to go.
Humphries found herself behind early on the strength of Meyers Taylor’s push. Humphries had a near-perfect drive to get back ahead of her teammate, and as she crossed the line she was .04 ahead of Meyers Taylor for her second Monobob World Series gold medal of the season.
Meyer Taylor finished with a silver medal.
Canada’s Cynthia Appiah tied the quick start of the competition and put together two smooth slides to win a bronze medal, her fourth medal of the season.
With their finishes, Elana Meyers Taylor won the overall Women’s Monobob World Series title, with Kaillie Humphries second overall. Cynthia Appiah finished the season in third.
In the race, Mariama Jamanka had likely the best drive of her World Cup season in the second heat to slide up from fifth to fourth. Jamanka picked off teammate Laura Nolte by .01 to gain that spot, with Nolte sliding into fifth.
Christine de Bruin helped put two Canadian sleds in the top six with a sixth place finish.
Melissa Lotholz was .7 quicker on her second run and finished 11th.
The race doubled as the European Championships, in that race Jamanka won gold, Nolte silver, and Nadezhda Sergeeva bronze.
