(January 9, 2022) – Madeleine Egle continued her streak of strong finishes with a gold medal in Sigulda.

Egle broke the start record in the first heat, and then lowered it again in the second heat, and had the fastest split at every point in both heats on her way to a .180 second victory over World Cup point leader Julia Taubitz.
The win for Egle was her fourth of the season, and her fifth straight medal. For Taubitz, the silver was her eighth medal in nine events.
Between the two, Taubitz holds the lead by under 100 points over Egle with four points events to go.
Tatyana Ivanova came back from a leg injury in Sochi to win a bronze medal with two very consistent runs.
Natalie Geisenberger had the second quickest run of the second heat to move up from seventh in the first heat to finish fourth, just ahead of Russia’s Viktoriia Demchenko in fifth.
Latvia’s Eliza Tiruma finished sixth on her home ice.
The United States’ women struggled in Sigulda. Emily Sweeney was fifth after her first heat but fell to 11th on the second run. Summer Britcher, who was 17th after the first run, crashed and broke her sled on the second trip down and received a DNF.
Trinity Ellis led the way for Canada in 17th place, while Kailey Allan finished 25th. Natalie Corless crashed on her first run and received a DNF.
