From Igls, AUT
(January 8, 2022) – Germany’s Maureen Zimmer and Neele Schuten won their first career gold medals in Igls, beating out Margot Boch and Stephanie Schneider for top honors.
In both heats Zimmer and Schuten set the quick time off the top and at the finish on their way to a .23 second victory over France’s Margot Boch and Sandie Clair.
Zimmer’s and Schuten’s gold medals came in just their third race together as a team.
Boch and Clair edged out Stephanie Schneider and Claudia Schüßler for silver by .04, while the Germans took bronze.
Australia’s Ashleigh Werner and Tia-Clair Toomey finished fourth, well ahead of Kora’s Yooran Kim and Eunji Jeon in fifth.
Italy’s Giada Andreutti and Anna Schenk rounded out the top six.
Great Britain’s Nikki McSweeney made her debut as a bobsled pilot and finished eighth with Isabella Burke on her brakes.
The United States’ Riley Compton and Mallory Bailey made their European debut in Igls and finished 10th.
