From Sigulda, LAT
(January 8, 2022) – Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken edged out Andris & Juris Sics on their home ice in Sigulda to win their third race of the FIL World Cup season.

The Germans led the Latvians by just .008 after the first heat after Sics & Sics made a small mistake prior to the Kreisel. On the second run the brothers Sics were nearly perfect on their home ice, but Eggert & Benecken answered. The Germans were once again just the blink of an eye quicker, but it was enough to slide into a gold medal.
The margin of victory was just .037.
Germans Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt finished third, up from fourth in the first heat. They leapfrogged Emanuel Rieder & Simon Kainzwaldner in the second heat to take bronze away from the Italians.
Rieder and Kainzwaldner finished fourth, while Latvians Martins Bots and Roberts Plume finished fifth. Andrei Bogdanov & Iurii Prokhorov rounded out the tops ix.
Americans Dana Kellogg & Duncan Segger had a strong showing in their first World Cup race in Sigulda with a 12th place finish. They were one spot ahead of Canadians Tristan Walker & Justin Snith in 13th.
Zach Di Gregorio & Sean Hollander rounded out the North American effort in Latvia.
With four points paying events left in the season, Sics & Sics lead Eggert & Benecken by 67 points. Wendl & Arlt sit third, with Bogdanov & Prokhorov and Steu & Koller rounding out the top five.
