From Altenberg, GER
(January 5, 2022) – Susanne Kreher was dominant in Altenberg in the penultimate race of the 2021/2022 IBSF Intercontinental Cup season as she cruised to her fourth gold medal of the season.
Kreher matched quick starts off the top with unmatched speed at the bottom of the Altenberg course to set the quick time in both heats on her way to a .58 second victory over teammate Sophia Griebel.
Griebel was close after one heat, only .08 out of the lead. Her second run wasn’t quick as crisp, and while good enough for third in the heat it wasn’t anywhere near what was needed to hang with Kreher. Kreher’s second run was nearly as quick as her first and plenty enough to win her fourth gold medal of the ICC season.
Griebel finished second, .58 back, while Hallie Clarke of Canada finished third, just over a second out of the lead.
China’s Huiyang Lin put down the second quickest run of the second heat to jump up from seventh to fourth, while France’s Agathe Bessard set a season-high finish of fifth. Russia’s Alena Frolova finished sixth, tied with the United States’ Savannah Graybill. Graybill’s second run was fourth quickest of the heat and enough to catapult her into the top six from eighth.
Canada’s Madi Charney finished ninth, up from 12th in the first heat, while the United States’ Mystique Ro finished just outside of the top ten in 12th.
Liechtenstein’s Katharina Eigenmann finished 15th, Columbia’s Laura Vargas finished 18th, while Malta’s Shannon Galea finished 20th.
With one race to go in the women’s ICC program, Susanne Kreher simply needs to show up and slide relatively well to win the season title. Canada’s Hallie Clarke sits second overall, just ahead of Sophia Griebel, Savannah Graybill, and Madi Charney.
