Vogt Wins 2nd Straight NAC Gold

(December 19, 2021) – Nicole Vogt and Nicole Brungardt slid their way to Vogt’s second gold medal in as many days, winning the two-woman North American Cup race.

Vogt out-drove the field despite pushes that were fourth and sixth-quickest in the race, as she set the quick time in the first heat by .13 over Australia’s Ashleigh Werner. On the second run WErner was the quickest, but only by .09 as Vogt came down on her final run with a combined downtime only .04 ahead of Werner but enough to win her second straight gold.

Vogt’s gold was her fourth straight two-woman bobsled medal, having won silver in the two Park City races and gold in the first Lake Placid race. She had missed the races in Whistler due to injury.

Werner and brakewoman Tia-Clair Toomey set the quick start in each heat, and Werner had the quickest drive in the second heat to win silver, Werner’s fifth straight between monobob and two-woman bobsled.

The United States’ Brittany Reinbolt finished third, only .18 behind Vogt.

Jamaica’s Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian finished fourth, while Canada’s Bianca Ribi and Aysia Rissling finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

With one race to go in the IBSF North American Cup two-woman program, Brittany Reinbolt leads Alysia Rissling by 34 points.
