(December 19, 2021) – Julia Taubitz won her third gold medal of the 2021/2022 season, edging out Austria’s Madeleine Egle to win.
Egle carried a .036 second advantage over Taubitz going into the second heat. Taubit’s second run was a track record run of 39.701, and while Egle’s second run was quick, she was unable to keep pace with Taubitz, with Taubitz winning gold and Egle silver.
Germany grabbed three of the top four spots, with Natalie Geisenberger sliding into bronze from fourth in the first heat. Teammate Anna Berreiter moved up from sixth to finish fourth.
Latvia’s Eliza Tiruma jumped up from fifth from seventh, while the United States’ Emily Sweeney rounded out the top six in sixth.
The United States placed two women in the Sprint World Cup with Ashley Farquharson in 12th place. Brittney Arndt finished 17th, up from 18th in the first heat, while Summer Britcher had trouble early in her second run and fell from fifth to 23rd.
Canada got all three of their women into Sunday’s race through Nation’s Cup qualifying. Trinity Ellis finished 18th, while Natalie Corless finished 20th and Makena Hodgson finished 25th.
