Hermann overcame a combined .94 second start deficit to edge out Italy’s Valentina Margaglio. While Margaglio’s second run was the fastest of the heat (and tied for fastest of the competition), Hermann had two constituent runs that kept her ahead of Margaglio.

Hermann’s gold was her second of the season, and her third straight medal. For Margaglio the silver was her first ever in World Cup action, and the second medal of her career.

Russia’s Yulia Kanakina finished in third to secure her second ever bronze medal. Both bronzes have come in Altenberg.

Defending World Cup leader Janine Flock was edged out of the podium by .09 and finished fourth. Belgium’s Kim Meylmans finished fifth, while Elena Nikitina rounded out the top six.

“I like this track very much! It feels like home, and now that Königsee isn’t available this is my home track for now,” Hermann said in a post-race interview with IBSF TV.

With three races to go in the World Cup calendar, Kimberley Bos continues to lead, 17 points ahead of Tina Hermann and 27 points ahead of Elena Nikitina. Janine Flock and Kim Meylemans round out the top five. Bos finished tenth in the race.

Katie Uhlaender led the way for the United States with a 15th place finish, up from 17th in the first heat. She leapfrogged teammate Kelly Curtis, who came into the second heat in 16th, but fell to 17th on the second run. Megan Henry missed the second heat after a bumpy first run left her in 22nd.

Canada’s Mimi Rahneva missed out on a top ten by .06 to finish 11th, while Jane Channell had trouble in Kreisel and finished 24th.
