From Lake Placid, USA
(December 15, 2021) – A day after winning his first race in 97 tries during his skeleton career, Nick Timmings won his second straight race and with it the 2021/2022 North American Cup men’s skeleton title.
Timmings had the third fastest run in each heat to back up the quickest run in each heat to cruise to victory over Israel’s Jared Firestone, who finished with a silver medal. The margin of victory was .82 seconds.
Timmings was battling two-time NAC champion Ander Mirambell for the NAC title and needed some help from Mirambell to take the overall title. Mirambell came into the second run in second place. Mirambell made a mistake late in his run and placed only sixth in the heat to fall to third. Timmings second run was the best of the heat and enough to give him gold and an overall title by just two points over Mirambell.
In the race, David Park finished a career-best fourth, ahead of Akwasi Frimpong with a career-best fifth, and Brendan Doyle in sixth.
Doyle, with his sixth place finish, finished third in the NAC overall standings.
Canada once again placed all of their men in the top ten, with Troy Wilson and Ryan Kuehn in seventh and eighth respectively. Jimmie Airey was edged out by Luxembourg’s Jeff Bauer for ninth and finished tenth.
The United States’ young squad finished 14th, 15th and 16th respectively, with Darryl Payne leading Bradley Nicol and Samuel Arquit.
Payne had the quick start in both runs.
