(December 14, 2021) – Russia’s Dmitrii Grevtsev beat the field handily in Sigulda to give Russia yet another European Cup gold medal in Latvia.
Grevtsev opened up a .67 second lead over Germany’s Stefan Röttig in the first heat despite Röttig’s significantly quicker start. Röttig set the quick time of the second run, and while Grevtsev was only third quickest, Röttig’s time wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the huge lead set by the Russian.
The gold for Grevtsev was his second straight.
Grevtsev’s teammate, Bogdan Popov, finished in third place. Germany’s Cedric Renner, Russia’s Danil Cherkasov and Germany’s Ludwig Mannhardt rounded out the top six.
With one race to go in the European Cup, Röttig holds a three point advantage over Renner. Ludwig Mannhardt sits fourth with China’s Zheng Yin ahead of him. Yin did not compete in any of the EC races in Sigulda.
The United States had one entry in the race. One day after getting his first European Cup top ten, Hunter Williams finished 13th.
