(December 14, 2021) – Polina Tiruina led a Russian sweep of the podium in the seventh race of the European Cup skeleton season.
Tiurina set the quick time of the race in the first heat and opened up a .36 second advantage over teammate Ulyana Usynina in the process. On the second run it was Anastasiia Tsyganova putting down the quick time of the heat, while Tiurina could only muster a third quickest run. However, that second run was enough to stay ahead of the field to give Tiurina her second gold medal in as many days.
Usynina finished second, .17 behind Tiurina, while Tsyganova finished third, .48 back.
Germany grabbed the next two spots in the race, with Hanna Staub and Sarah Wimmer in fourth and fifth respectively, while the United States’ Mystique Ro finished sixth.
USA’s Michelle Toukan finished 12th.
With one race left to go in the European Cup season, Germany’s Sarah Wimmer holds a 40 point advantage over Mystique Ro. China’s Yuxi Li sits third.
