From Lake Placid, USA
(December 13, 2021) – Ander Mirambell is a two-time North American Cup champion, and flexed those championship muscles in Lake Placid with a come from behind victory in Race 6 of the NAC tour.
Mirambell trailed Australian Nick Timmings by .17 going into the second run. On that second run Mirambell threw down the best run of the heat. Timmings couldn’t answer, and was edged by Mirambell by .04 to give Mirambell his first gold medal of the season and eighth of his career.
Of Mirambell’s 12 North American Cup starts in Lake Placid, he’s finished in the top six all but twice.
The silver medal for Timmings was the third of his career.
Israel’s Jared Firestone tied a career-best finish with a bronze medal. He’d previously won bronze in Park City in the 2020/2021 NAC season.
Canada’s Ryan Kuehn scored a career-best fourth place finish, just ahead of Ireland’s Brendan Doyle in fifth. Ghana’s Akwasi Frimpong finished sixth, his best ever finish in NAC action.
Canada put three sliders in the top ten, with Jimmie Airey and Troy Wilson finishing seventh and ninth, respectively. Kyle Donsberger finished 11th to round out the Canadian effort.
The United States put out a team of rookies who had a combined two starts among them. Daryl Payne finished 14th to lead the way for the Americans. Samuel Arquit finished 15th, and Bradley Nicol was DSQ’d after being overweight.
Payne’s two starts were the two quickest of the race.
