From Lake Placid, USA
(December 13, 2021) – Eunji Kim slid to her first North American Cup gold medal in Lake Placid, beating out teammate Jeonghyeok Lee for top honors.
Kim was the quickest off the top in both heats, and was the quickest at every single split on her way to gold. In the first run it was Lee who hung with her teammate, finishing the heat just .19 behind Kim. On the second run Kim was entirely better than the field, over .5 faster than anyone else and that was more than enough to give her the first gold medal of her career.
Lee finished second, while Sweden’s Leslie Stratton finished a season-best third.
Canada’s Natalie Coughlin used two strong starts to finish just out of the medals in fourth, well ahead of Korea’s Seokju Yang in a career-best fifth. The US Virgin Islands’ Katie Tannenbaum rounded out the top six.
Canada’s Grace Dafoe finished in seventh for her third straight top-seven finish in Lake Placid, while Malta’s Shannon Galea finished ninth. Leah Fair finished 11th for the United States.
