From Sigulda, LAT
(December 13, 2021) – Russia’s Polina Tiurina slid to her first ever IBSF European Cup gold medal in Sigulda, easily holding off the competition in the process.
Tiruina opened up a .16 second lead over teammate Anastasiia Tsyganova in the first heat. On the second Tsyganova was able to set the quickest run of the heat to that point, but Tiurina was too strong, coming down .32 faster than her teammate to easily take gold.
The gold for Tiruna was her first ever, while the silver for Tsyganova was her best ever finish in European Cup action.
The United States’ Mystique Ro finished with a bronze medal, .4 out of silver.
Germany’s Sarah Wimmer and Hanna Staub finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Annia Unterscheider rounded out the top six after moving up from 10th in the first heat.
With two races to go in the European Cup skeleton season, Sarah Wimmer leads Mystique Ro by 35 points. China’s Yuxi Li, who won the first four races of the season, still sits third despite sitting out the last two races.
