From Sigulda, LAT
(December 12, 2021) – For the second time in as many days Richard Oelsner slid his way into gold after trailing after one heat in Sigulda.
Oelsner and brakeman Georg Fleischhauer trailed teammates Jonas Jannusch and Joshua Tasche by .02 going into the second heat. On that second run Oelsner tied the race-quickest downtime set by Jannusch on the first run to move into the lead. Jannusch couldn’t answer, setting only the fourth quickest time of the heat to fall not only out of the lead but down to third, with Oelsner taking gold.
The gold for Oelsner was his fourth on the season in two-man bobsled.
Emils Cipulis and Arnis Bebriss jumped up from fifth in the first heat to slide into silver for the second straight day. Jannusch took bronze a day after being the first slider off the podium.
Alexey Stulnev finished fourth, ahead of Michael Kuonen and Vyacheslav Popov, who rounded out the top six.
With a pair of two-man races left on the European Cup season, Oelsner leads Kuonen and Cedric Follador in the tour points, with the two Swiss sliders tied for second behind the German gold medalist.
