From Winterberg, GER
(December 12, 2021) – Laura Nolte won gold in Winterberg, leading the way for a German sweep of the podium.
Nolte set the quick time of the competition in the first heat to open up a .15 second lead over Olympic gold medalist Mariama Jamanka. On the second heat Jamanka answered, putting down the quick time of the heat. Nolte answered, and while she only had the third quickest time of the run, it was enough to hold off Jamanka and brakewoman Alexandra Burghardt by .07.
Nolte and brakewoman Deborah Levi set the quick start time in both heats.
Kim Kalicki and Leonie Fiebig had the second quickest time in the second to jump into the medals from fifth and close out the German sweep of the podium.
The gold for Nolte was her third in four races this season. She has yet to finish outside of the top two to start the 2021/2022 season.
Canada’s Christine de Bruin and Kristen Bujnowski finished fourth, edging out the United States’ Kaillie Humphries by just .01. Humphries finished fifth, while teammate Elana Meyers Taylor finished sixth.
Meyers Taylor and brakewoman Kaysha Love tied Nolte and Levi for the quick start time of the second heat.
Cynthia Appiah put a second Canadian sled in the top ten with an eighth place finish. Teammate Melissa Lotholz was edged out of the top ten and finished 11th.
