From Altenberg, GER
(December 12, 2021) – Germany won its second gold of the day in the Team Relay, a few hours after tying for gold in the men’s luge race.
Julia Taubitz, Max Langenhan, and the team of Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken had the quickest times at each split of any team who finished on their way to a .325 second victory over Italy.
The Italian squad was propelled into silver by a great run by the doubles team of Ludwig Rieder & Patrick Rastner.
Russia finished third, .493 back.
The United States put together another strong team relay race to finish fourth. Austria’s team of weekend gold medalists couldn’t overcome trouble from Madeleine Egle and finished fifth.
Canada finished sixth.
Latvia had a gold medal run going throughout most of their run, but the doubles team of Martins Bots & Roberts Plume crashed late in their run and the team scored a DNF.
