From Lake Placid, USA
Martins Dukurs is one heat away from bringing home a World Championship. All that stands between Dukurs and the title is one clean run down Mt. Van Hoevenberg. Coming into the third heat, the Latvian had a .69 second lead. When all was said and done in Heat 3, the lead was opened up to a 1.56 second lead. Aside from his start times, Dukurs has had the fastest split at each point along the track through three heats.
Frank Rommel leads the race for second. The German is .23 ahead of Ben Sandford, who passes Matt Antoine for third. Antoine had a good slide, but Sandford’s was second quickest in Heat 3, and now the kiwi is .05 ahead of the American. Sergei Chudinov is within shouting distance of the top 3, but will need a major improvement off his first three heat times.
John Daly makes it two Americans in the top 10 with his 3rd fastest run in heat 3, while John Fairbairn is the top Canadian in 9th. Michael Douglas is 11th and Eric Neilson 18th.
