From Winterberg, GER
(December 3, 2021) – Max Illmann and Philipp Wobeto edged out teammates Richard Oelsner and Georg Fleischhauer to win their first gold medals of the season in Winterberg.
Illmann took the lead from the 18th starting position, .06 ahead of Oelsner. On the second run the difference in the two Germans’ runs were even closer, with Illmann’s downtime just .03 quicker than Oelsner’s, to give him a .09 second victory.
The win for Illmann was his second in his career at the European Cup level, and his first since 2019 (Lillehammer). Oelsner’s silver was his third straight medal.
Kaizhi Sun and Qingze Wu jumped up from fifth to finish with a bronze medal, his first at the European Cup level. Sun edged out Cedric Follador and Jonas Jannusch for the final medal, while Follador and Jannusch finished fourth and fifth. Germany’s Laurin Zern finished sixth.
Lichtenstein’s Martin Kranz finished 17th, three spots ahead of Adam Baird of Great Britain in 20th.
