From Igls, AUT
(December 3, 2021) – Zheng Yin continued his fantastic start to the 2021/2022 Olympic season with a gold medal in his first career Intercontinental Cup race in Igls.
The Chinese slider had the fast start of the competition on a track that rewards big pushes, and he was rewarded the two fastest runs of the race on his way to a .59 second victory over Russia’s Evgeniy Rukosuev.
Rukousev jumped from third to second, leapfrogging teammate Daniil Romanov, who finished third.
The gold for Yin was his fifth straight to start the season after winning the first four European Cup skeleton races in Lillehammer and Winterberg.
Germany rounded out the top six, with Felix Keisinger in fourth, Felix Seibel in fifth, and Lukas Nydegger in sixth.
Great Britain put both of their sliders in the top ten, with Ben Fulker and Lawrence Bostock finishing ninth and tenth, respectively.
Blake Enzie led the way for Canada. He jumped up from 15th in the first heat to finish 13th, three spots ahead of teammate Kyle Murray in 16th. Murray entered the second heat in 18th place.
Americans Andrew Blaser and Daniel Barefoot tied for 17th, while Stephen Garbett finished 22nd.
