Russia Wins Relay on Home Ice

(November 28, 2021) – Russia cruised to victory in the second Team Relay of the season, setting the quick time on ever leg on their way to a 1.292 second victory over Germany.

The team of Viktoriia Demchenko, Semen Pavlichenko, and Bogdanov & Prokorhov were only beaten on the reaction time, but were otherwise quick everywhere else on their way to gold.

Behind them, Germany was also quick, but couldn’t match the pace of the Russians. Anna Berreiter, Johannes Ludwig, and Wendl & Arlt had the second best time at each split. Germany also had trouble due to the deteriorating track conditions that plagued the whole race weekend.

Latvia came down on suboptimal ice and generally struggled to find pace, but a great run by the doubles team of Sics & Sics placed them in the bronze medal position.

Romania was the first team off and with that better ice slid to a fourth place finish. Italy and Austria rounded out the top six.

The United States finished eighth, once week after winning a medal in Yanqing.
