From Igls, AUT
(November 28, 2021) – Laura Nolte drove to her second gold in as many weeks in two-woman bobsled, once again beating teammate Kim Kalicki for top honors.
Nolte and Deborah Levi Carried a .07 advantage over Canadians Christine de Bruin and Kristen Bujnowski after one run, with Kalicki and Leonie Fiebig just .01 out of second in third.
On the second run Kalicki set the fast time of the race to leapfrog de Bruin and put the pressure on Nolte. Nolte answered, though, and despite a slightly slower downtime she was able to win her second straight gold.
The podium was identical from the previous race’s top three, with Nolte ahead of Kalicki and de Bruin.
Mariama Jamanka, the 2018 Olympic gold medalist, broke a tie for fourth with Elana Meyers Taylor in the second heat, with Jamanka edging Meyers Taylor by .06. Meyers Taylor and brakewoman Kaysha Love set the fast two starts of the competition on the way to their fifth place finish.
Austrians Kati Beierl and Jennifer Onasanya finished sixth on their home track with two quick runs.
Kaillie Humphries and Lolo Jones had trouble on the start of their second run, with Jones stumbling on the push. The end result was a tenth place finish for the Americans.
It was a strong showing for Canada up and down the leaderboard. Cynthia Appiah and Dawn Richardson Wilson moved up from ninth to eighth in their second run. Melissa Lotholz was the big mover in the second heat. She entered the second run in 15th, but moved up to 11th after a really quick second trip down.
Australia’s Ashleigh Werner moved up from 19th in the first heat to finish 17th with a solid second drive.
