From Park City, USA
(November 27, 2021) – Frank Del Duca beat out Korea’s Youngjin Suk and Canada’s Taylor Austin to win his first North American Cup gold of the 2021/2022 season.
Del Duca and Boone Niederhofer set the quick start time in the first heat, and with it the fastest time of the competition to open up a .18 lead over NAC point leader Austin and .22 over Suk.
On the second run Suk moved up into the silver medal position at the expense of Austin, as the Korean set the quick time of the heat. Del Duca was able to match that second run time to take the lead and the victory in Park City.
The gold was Del Duca’s first of the season after winning a pile of silver medals in Canada to start the North American Cup season.
USA’s Geoffrey Gadbois and Tyler Hickey finished fourth and fifth, while Axel Brown finished sixth.
Canada’s Pat Norton was edged out of a top ten with an 11th place finish. Brendon Thera-Plamondon finished one spot back in 12th, while Orion Edwards rounded out the Canadian effort in 15th.
The United States’ Tanner Grzesiek finished 16th in his first career NAC race as a pilot.
