(November 26, 2021) – Lisa Buckwitz dominated the Women’s European Cup Monobob World Series race in Altenberg, cruising to victory against a smaller field.
Buckwitz was the quickest off the top in the first heat, opening up a .73 second advantage over Slovakia’s Viktoria Cernanska. On the second run Buckwitz was again the quickest by over .4, and nearly a full second at the bottom on her way to a 1.74 second victory over Cernanska.
Buckwitz’s win was her first in Monobob World Series action. She’d previously won in multiple two-woman races.
Cernanska’s silver was a career best at any level in monobob action.
Russia’s Alena Osipenko finished third, 1.93 seconds back, while Georgeta Popescu and Lidiia Hunko rounded out the five sled field.
