From Park City, USA
(November 24, 2021) – Lukas Nydegger won the first gold medal of his Intercontinental Cup career, winning handily in Park City.
Nydegger overcame middle of the pack start times to set the fast time in each heat. In the first heat he was .28 ahead of German teammate Felix Seibel, with Evgeniy Rukosuev .35 out of the lead. On the second run Nydegger was again the quickest, and fast enough to beat out Rukosuev by .55 for gold.
Rukosuev finished with a silver medal, just .01 ahead of Seibel, who finished third.
The gold medal for Nydegger was his first at the ICC level. His only other gold medal came in 2019 at the European Cup level (December 2019, Winterberg).
Germany put all three of their men in the top four, with Felix Keisinger out of the medals in fourth. The United States’ Andrew Blaser put together another pair of solid runs to finish fifth, ahead of Nathan Crumpton in sixth.
The United States put two sleds in the top ten, with Daniel Barefoot in tenth place. Teammate Stephen Garbett finished 20th.
Park City continued to be a struggle for the Canadian men. Kyle Murray was the top finisher for Canada in 12th, while teammate Blake Enzie finished 22nd.
Great Britain’s Ben Fulker finished ninth, with teammate Jacob Salisbury the first slider out of the top 20 in 21st.
Two-time North American Cup champion Ander Mirambell finished 13th.
