Balk Wins Para Sport World Cup Race in 1st Start

(November 22, 2021) – Robert Balk took gold in his first ever IBSF Para Sport World Cup start, beating out a small but strong field of competitors.

Balk had the two fastest times of the race on his way to a .33 second victory over Great Britain’s Corie Mapp. The win came in Balk’s first ever Para Sport World Cup start.

Mapp finished second to win his third straight medal, dating back to last season. He edged out Swiss pilot Christopher Stewart for the honors.

Stewart’s bronze was his third medal in his last four races.

Spain’s Israel Blanco finished fourth, ahead of World Champion Jonas Frei and perennial contender Lonnie Bissonnette of Canada.

The United States put Steven Jacobo and Guillermo Castillo in the top eight with seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively.
