(November 19, 2021) – China’s Yuxi Li won her third straight IBSF European Cup skeleton race, holding off the United States’ Mystique Ro for top honors.
Li threw down a massive first run, .6 faster than anyone else in the heat. Behinder, Ro and Russia’s Polina Tiurina were tied for second, with Great Britain’s Amelia Kellyman in the hunt in fourth.
On the second run Kellyman struggled to find pace and dropped to what would eventually be sixth place. Both Tiurina and Ro held their own, with Ro edging Tiurina to move to the lead with only Li to go.
Li couldn’t match the magic of her first heat, but had plenty of time on her first run to fall back on, as she eventually won by .2 over Ro for her third straight gold medal.
Ro finished second for the second time in a row, while Tiurina finished with a career-best third.
Russia’s Anastasiia Tsyganova put down the quick run of the second heat to jump up from ninth to fourth, while Sarah Wimmer and Kellyman rounded out the top six.
Freya Tarbit finished 11th on the second British sled, while Michelle Toukan finished 18th in her first ever race outside of North America for the United States.
