From Whistler, CAN
(November 13, 2021) – Russia’s Evginiy Rukosuev won gold to kick off the 2021/2022 IBSF Intercontinental Cup season, cruising to victory in Whistler.
The Russian set the fastest two times of the race on his way to a 1:01 second win over the United States’ Andrew Blaser. Rukosuev was only the sixth quickest off the top in his second run, but overcame that deficit to put down the fastest run of the heat.
The silver medal for Blaser was his first ever medal in Intercontinental Cup action. He won two silver medals in North American Cup races earlier in the week.
Austria’s Alexander Schlintner won bronze, only .01 behind Blaser, after winning two golds in NAC action.
Canada’s Kyle Murray finished fourth, ahead of Nathan Crumpton and Germany’s Felix Seibel, who finished fifth and sixth respectively.
USA’s Stephen Garbett missed out on a top ten by one spot, finishing .22 behind Ireland’s Brendan Doyle. Daniel Barefoot rounded out the American effort in 18th.
Great Britain struggled on Canadian ice. Ben Bulker finished 14th to lead Team GB, while Jacob Salisbury finished 16th.
For Canada, Blake Enzie helped put both Canadian sleds in the top ten with a seventh place effort.
Ander Mirambell finished 12th for Spain.
