From Lillehammer, NOR
(November 11, 2021) – Stephanie Schneider cruised in Lillehammer to win gold in the first women’s monobob race of the 2021/2022 European Cup season.
The 2021 World Championship silver medalist was the quickest off every split after the start and opened up a .41 second advantage over The Netherlands’ Karlien Sleper after one run. On the second run Sleper solidified her spot on the podium, moving into the lead with only Schneider to go. Schneider was once again the quickest of the field, and her second run was enough to give her a .53 second victory over Sleper.
Sleper took silver, while Slovakia’s Viktoria Cernanska finished third for her first ever monobob medal.
Romania’s Georgeta Popescu jumped up from fifth to fourth on her second run, leapfrogging 2018 Olympic gold medal brakewoman Lisa Buckwitz for the spot. Buckwitz held onto fifth on the strength of the two best starts of the race.
Russia’s Alena Osipenko rounded out the top six.
