From Lake Placid, USA
Steven Holcomb has put himself in position to win the 2012 World Championship. On the strength of the fastest push in heat 3, Holcomb carries a .2 second lead into the final heat. Lyndon Rush faltered on his third heat, only putting down a 55.86, the fourth fastest time of the heat. Rush hangs onto second, but is only .06 ahead of third place Max Arndt, who’s trying to come back from a brutal second heat.
Beat Hefti has been consistant, but hasn’t had the speed that he’ll need to get onto the podium. His times have been consistently .2 behind the leaders. Francesco Friedrich sits fifth, while Oskars Melbardis is the sixth and final sled within a second of the lead.
It’s been a good weekend for the Americans, Holcomb leads, John Napier is seventh and Nick Cunningham ninth. Canadian Justin Kripps is still trying to work out of a hole created in the first heat. His times have been relatively faster, and he comes into the final heat only .04 out of 18th.
