Germany’s Stephanie Schneider and the United States’ Kaillie Humphries trailed Laura Nolte after one run in Altenberg, with Kim Kalicki and Mariama Jamanka also in the mix. On the second run it was experience over youth, with Schneider moving into the lead with Humphries only .04 back.

Humphries had the fast time of the second heat, .28 faster than anyone else in the heat to jump up from fourth to second place.

Nolte struggled on her third run and was .7 slower to fall from first to third, but still .31 ahead of anyone behind her.

Mariama Jamanka had the best two monobob runs of her career to slide into fourth place, just ahead of teammate Kim Kalicki. Kalicki dropped out of the top three with a second run that was .6 slower than her first.

Cynthia Appiah set the Altenberg start record in the first heat, and then broke that record in her second heat on her way to a sixth place run after two heats. She’s

Canada’s Melissa Lotholz had a few issues on her first run that she cleaned up in the second heat to move up from 11th to eighth after two runs. Teammate Christine de Bruin has had a forgettable trip to Altenberg, and sits 16th after two runs.

The United States’ Elana Meyers Taylor finished the first day of monobob in PLACE. In her first heat she set the start record, and had a top three run going. A late exit out of Curve 9 tipped her over, and while she got back on her runners, she found herself in 22nd place after one run. Her second run was much better: The ninth quickest run with a start time that tied Appiah’s for the fastest ever, and that moved her into the top 20 in 19th place.

Mica McNeill put together two solid slides to finish ninth after two heats.
