From Calgary, Canada
Home ice has paid dividends for Canada once again. The CAN1 sled of Humphries/Ciochetti takes the gold over Schneiderheinze/Thöene and Kiriasis/Lammert. All three had near-perfect runs, but the advantage Humphries brought into heat 2 from her first drive is what put her over the top. The win makes it a sweep of Canadian races for Humphries.
The Upperton/Brown team takes fourth, just ahead of Martini/Tischer. The fifth place finish is plenty good enough for Cathleen Martini to win the 2011/2012 title.
“It’s a really good feeling after this many years of hard work. It’s a really great end of the season,” an emotional Martini said of her season.
Great run for the Americans in heat 2, with Bree Schaaf moving up a couple spots to seventh and Jamie Greubel moving up one spot to 12th. Megan Hill finishes 16th in just her second ever World Cup start.
