Coming into heat number two, all Shelley Rudman had to do to claim her first ever World Cup championship was finish sixth. Her first run put her in a tie for second, while Marion Thees was going to have to come from behind. Thees could only do as well as 10th, and will find herself second overall on the season. Rudman takes bronze, and the 2011/2012 World Cup title along with it.
Rudman on her championship second run: “I just wanted to stick to my plan and focus to curves I hadn’t done as well in”.
It was a great day for Great Britain, with Lizzy Yarnold taking the gold medal, making it two for her abbreviated World Cup schedule. Anja Huber takes silver, capping a consistent season, but comes up a bit short in the overall, finishing third. Canadian Amy Gough ties with Rudman to share bronze.
“I love this track. We had a fantastic week, and learning the track in six runs was great,” said Yarnold.
Americans Katie Uhlaender and Anne O’Shea finish 8th and 9th, while Canadians Mellisa Hollingsworth finishes 5th and Sarah Reid 7th.
