Alexsandr Zubkov put down great, clean run, and his time of 51.21 is .11 ahead of his teammate Sergei Kasjanov and two-man winner Lyndon Rush. The fastest German sled, piloted by Max Arndt, sits just .04 behind the top three.
The second pack of sleds are just under a half second back. Bertazzo, Machata and Butner all had clean runs with a small bump here or there. Flawless run will give one of these sleds a top-five in the second heat.
American Nick Cunningham is just behind teammate Butner with a 52.19, while Canadian Justin Kripps had one skid that cost him a few tenths, he sits 11th after heat 1.
