FIBT World Cup – Round 7 – Women’s Skeleton

From Whistler, Canada

Mellisa Hollingsworth held home court, with her two runs the fastest of each heat, cruising to victory from Whistler.  Her combined time was nearly .2 over second place.

“I’ve had some difficulty on this track, everyone knows that, that’s why it’s been so emotional today.”

Lucy Katherine Chaffer had never placed on the podium, with a career best of 6th.  Tonight at Whistler she managed to put down a pair of huge runs that placed her in second, taking her first ever silver medal.  Shelley Rudman takes bronze, leapfrogging Anja Huber, who finishes fourth, while point leader Marion Thees takes fifth.

Lizzy Yarnold overcame a tough first run with a second run that would have placed her first after Heat 1.  The run moved her from 16th to a tie for 9th with American Anne O’Shea.  Kimber Gabryszak finishes 19th.
