As the FIBT World Cup leaves Germany for the 2011/2012 season, the German teams had left themselves a shot to take gold and silver, but Alexander Zubkov had other plans. The RUS1 sled tied the Machata-piloted GER 2 sled’s second run time, but the .02 opened up from heat one made the difference. Max Arndt came from fourth to finish third after a bad load at the start for the Latvians left Melbardis and LAT 2 on the outside looking in.
Melbardis settles for fourth, while Kasjanov and the second Russian sled finishes fifth.
Steven Holcomb, John Napier and the bulk of Team USA will be glad to get out of Germany after three weekends of mostly forgettable racing. No snow or wind today for Holcomb, just one bad skid into the first turn of the second run left USA 1 unable to improve on its 6th place start. John Napier finishes 13th, while Canadian Lyndon Rush and CAN 1 finish 8th.
