From Königssee, Germany
For over a year, there has been one winner in Men’s Skeleton: Martins Dukurs. Today, Dukurs came into the second heat in second, needing a huge run. The run was huge, but for all the wrong reasons. Dukurs almost rolled his sled, putting down a second run time .72 slower than his first.
That opened the door for Germany’s Frank Rommel. Rommel claims his first FIBT World Cup win, beating his teammate by nearly a second. Matthias Guggenberger from Austria finishes third, just .02 ahead of Matthew Antoine.
USA’s Antoine failed to make the second heat last week in Altenberg, and came into the second heat in third. One bad skid midway down the track slowed him down a couple of tenths, leaving him just outside of a medal finish. Alexander Tretiakov finishes fifth, while Dukurs can only muster a sixth place finish.
American John Daly has started a slow turnaround of his rather forgetful season, finishing 17th after missing the second heat last week, while Kyle Tress gets credit for 25th.
The Canadians all had a rather forgetful race, with John Fairbairn scoring the top position in 13th, while Michael Douglas and Eric Neilson finish 16th and 20th, respectively.
