FIBT World Cup – Round 5 – Men’s Skeleton – Heat 1

From Königssee, Germany

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Weather was a factor in Germany today.  The first 14 or 15 sleds came down in either no snow or a very light dusting.  Halfway through the run, the snow picked up, and the times got higher.

For the first time this season, the Men’s Skeleton athletes finish a heat without Martins Dukurs in the lead.  He’s got a .45 second deficit to make up over Frank Rommel.  USA’s Matt Antoine put down his best single run of the season, leaving him third, only .02 behind Dukurs.   Alexander Tretiakov sits fourth after a huge push but only an average run, and Matthias Guggenberger rounds out the top five as the last slider to break into the 51 second region.
