Bumpy sliding dominated the second run almost entirely throughout the field. The big surprise was the slide of Katharine Eustace. After a 20th place run in heat 1, Eustace put down a time that would have placed her third after heat 1. She’d find herself finishing with a solid top 10.
Shelley Rudman entered the second heat a tenth and a half ahead of Marion Thees. The Brit had the fastest speed of anyone in both heats, and opened up a full half-second over Thees to win the gold. Canadian Mellisa Hollingsworth takes bronze, while local favorite Anja Huber finishes fourth and American Katie Uhlaender fifth.
Other North American finishes: Gough (CAN) 11th, Gabryszak (USA) 15th, Reid (CAN) 17th, O’Shea (USA) 18th. Rookie Lizzy Yarnold from Great Britain finishes 14th.
“I had two really good runs, I had a few problems in previous years, and this time I really nailed it,” said Rudman of her race.
