From Lake Placid, USA
Jan. 22, 2020 – Wenhao Chen won gold in his fifth Intercontinental Cup race, cruising to victory in Lake Placid.
The Chinese junior had the two fastest runs of the day to beat out British slider Craig Thompson for the top spot and his first ICC gold.
Chen previously had won the final three North American Cup races of the season, also in Lake Placid.
Thompson was quick off the top, setting the fastest start time in both heats on his way to a silver medal, over a half of a second ahead of Germany’s Martin Rosenberger in third.
Rosenberger edged out both Daniil Romanov and American Stephen Garbett for the final spot on the podium, with Romanov and Garbett tying for fourth, just .02 behind.
Daniel Barefoot finished sixth on the day, with teammate Mike Rogals helping put all three American sleds in the top seven with a seventh place run.
Dave Greszczyszyn finished 14th on the day, one spot ahead of teammate Blake Enzie. Mark Lynch rounded out the Canadian effort in 17th.
Great Britian’s Stefan Squire helped put both British sleds in the top ten with a tenth place run, up from 13th in the first heat.
