From Lake Placid, USA
Jan. 22, 2020 – The United States flexed their home-ice muscles in Lake Placid in the fifth round of the Intercontinental Cup with a sweep of the women’s podium.
Katie Uhlaender led the way with the fastest run in both heats on her way to her ICC gold medal of the season. Teammates Sara Roderick and Kelly Curtis joined her on the podium, with Curtis moving up from fourth in the first heat to finish third.
Uhlaender’s gold was her third of the 2019/2020 sliding season, having won two gold medals in the season opening North American Cup races. Her previous ICC gold came in St. Moritz during the 2017/2018 season.
German Susanne Kreher finished fourth, .07 off the podium. Kimberley Murray finished fifth, while Hannah Neise rounded out the top six.
Jaclyn LaBerge finished ninth for her best ICC finish outside of Canada since the 2016/2017. LaBerge’s teammate Grace Dafoe finished 16th.
Great Britain’s Ashleigh PIttaway finished 12th, while Katie Tannenbaum finished 14th for the US Virgin Islands.
