Jan. 23, 2020 – USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) announced today that its board of directors has chosen Aron McGuire as the organization’s next chief executive officer. McGuire, who currently serves as the senior director of Olympic & Paralympic Training Centers for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), will take the reins from chairman emeritus and interim CEO, John Rosen, on February 24.
“Our board conducted a very thorough search process which considered many highly qualified candidates, and we are thrilled to have Aron as our new CEO,” said Bob Bergbauer, chairman of the USABS board of directors. “Aron is an outstanding individual whose background in our sport and achievements at the USOPC make him the right person to lead our organization to success.”
McGuire’s selection caps a search process facilitated by the board of directors that began in September 2019. A selection committee conducted various stages of interviews, and the board of directors unanimously voted in agreement on the selection committee’s recommendation of McGuire as CEO.
“I would like to thank the board of directors for presenting me with the opportunity to serve in this role with USABS,” McGuire said. “Additionally, I would like to recognize John Rosen’s contributions throughout the past months as interim CEO. I am honored and excited to work with the bobsled and skeleton community to build on the existing success in the sports, while ensuring a positive and safe environment. As we look to the future, our focus will be on growing support to current athletes on and off the track, developing the next generation of Team USA athletes, and expanding fan engagement for both bobsled and skeleton.”
McGuire, 44, was a member of the USA Bobsled National Team from 2003-2006. After his athletic career, McGuire served as the associate director of international teams for USA Track & Field from 2006-2013, and worked the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games in Beijing and London with the team. He later joined the USOPC as the director of the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center in 2013, where he oversaw a staff that managed operations, venues, and food and nutrition services at the USOPC’s flagship training center. McGuire was promoted to the senior director of all training centers in 2017.
McGuire received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Akron, where he competed in the decathlon. He received his MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
McGuire hails from Kent, Ohio, and he’s been living in Colorado Springs, Colo. since 2013. He’s married to Emily McGuire, and they have two children, Kira, 4, and Calin, 1.
The USABS is on a trajectory of success this season. Kaillie Humphries currently leads in women’s bobsled World Cup points, while Hunter Church, just 23, is ranked fifth overall in men’s bobsled standings. Women’s skeleton athlete Megan Henry raced to her first career World Cup medal in Igls, Austria last weekend, and the team isn’t slowing down.
