Lots of close racing throughout the field in the first heat of two-man bobsled. As expected with any race at Altenberg, German teams lead the field by a sizable margin, with Florschuetz/Kuske just .01 ahead of Arndt/Huebenbecker, but almost a full half-second back to third.
There’s a logjam from third back, with the SUI1 sled of Hefti/Lamparter less than a tenth of a second from sixth place LAT1, with Zubkov/Trunenkov and Holcomb/Langton wedged in between.
The third German sled (Machata/Bredau) sits 8th after the first heat, while the second American sled of Napier/Robinson is 17th.
