From Altenberg, Germany
After the first run was cancelled due to weather, today’s women’s skeleton run had the potential to be a craps shoot. Despite more snow in the final World Cup skeleton run of the weekend, many of the sliders kept near their position.
In the thrown out heat, Germany had swept the podium spots, but with a fresh start, British slider Shelley Rudman was able to break into the podium, taking a bronze medal from Marion Thees. German slider Anja Huber put down a much slower time in the official heat, but her time of 59.87 was still quick enough to take the gold medal, while Katharina Heinz took silver.
Mellisa Hollingsworth of Canada finishes fifth, while Katie Uhlaender moves to sixth from eighth, with Amy Gough, Emma Lincoln-Smith, Katherine Eustace and Lucy Katherine Chaffer rounding out the top 10.
US athletes Anne O’Shea and Kimber Gabryszak finish 12th and 15th, respectively.
